Synopsis of SHV Holdings
SHV holdings is one of the oldest family businesses in the Netherlands,
formerly run by chairman Paul van Vlissingen. SHV has global interests in
energy, retail, and raw-material distribution businesses. The company
is one of the world's top liquefied petroleum gas companies, and owns
US scrap metal company David J. Joseph and German-based metal recycling
firm TSR Recycling. SHV also operates the Makro store chain in Asia and
South America.
Makro
SHV holdings currently has 90 Makro retail stores in South America as
well as 69 stores in Asia and 12 in South Africa. SHV is a private
family owned operation without public holdings.
In 1997, Paul Fentener van Vlissingen sold off SHV’s European
retail chain Makro. Makro had opened stores in Belgium, the UK, Spain,
Portugal, Morocco, Greece, Poland and the Czech Republic.

SHV Gas
SHV Gas operates Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) companies in 23
countries on 4 continents and is one of the largest players in the
global LPG distribution market. Total sales of all LPG activities was
€ 4.5 billion in 2004.
