About Native Solutions to Conservation Refugees:
Native Solutions to
Conservation Refugees's (NSCoR) mission is to respond to Indigenous and
local communities' wishes when conservation and environmental factors
threaten to displace them. NSCoR is committed to the local
communities providing the solutions, when possible.
NSCoR grew out of a request by the Mursi
people, to NSCoR's director Will Hurd, to help keep them on their
land, as African Parks Foundation took over management of the Omo
National Park. African Parks Foundation, in essence, took over
management of a section of Mursi land. Will was in Mursi territory
as African Parks Foundation's interest in the area was beginning to be
felt. Will lived for seven months among the Mursi, where he
communicated in Mursi language.
